HFL’s 2017 Grant Cycle is Now Closed
Obesity and weight-related chronic disease are severe obstacles to a person’s ability to live a long and fulfilling life. Many residents of La Porte live with unhealthy body weight, do not exercise regularly and lack access to healthy food options. The many negative consequences of unhealthy weight, poor diet and physical inactivity can lead to serious health risks, greater medical costs and a lower quality of life.
Reducing the negative effects of poor physical health and its impact on our community is a key component of the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte’s mission of empowering our residents to live healthy and well. Therefore, we have identified Healthy Living as a Strategic Focus Area and are committed to helping La Porte residents improve their physical health. Grant requests do not have a set minimum but are limited by our yearly budget. HFL has budgeted a maximum of $3.5 million for grants in 2017.
Our goals for Healthy Living grants are:
- Reducing obesity and weight-related chronic diseases
- Improving access to healthy foods, reducing food deserts
- Increasing community-wide focus on active living and fit lifestyles
