How We Support the Community Now
Living Healthy, Living Well…
HFL recognizes the invaluable role that the former La Porte Hospital Foundation’s signature programs and events played in our community. The two foundations blended their financial and operational efforts together as of January 1, 2017, and HFL continues to maintain these programs and events in support of our mission to empower residents to live healthy and well in and around La Porte.
Some of the signature programs that will continue include:
Building Healthy Habits
The Lil’ F.I.S.H.TM Club (Feel Important…Stay Healthy) is a program established in 2000 to educate elementary school students about the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices. The program reaches over 1,200 fourth grade students each year in La Porte and Starke Counties. In 2016, Lil’ F.I.S.H. was extended to include 800 second grade students.

Next Generation of Care Providers
Any form of higher education comes at a cost, and the price of tuition and other related expenses continues to rise. Noting the importance of qualified healthcare professionals, we are pleased to support scholarships for local students pursuing careers in healthcare. Application Period Now Closed, Learn More here.
Get Active, Get Fit
Physical activity and fitness can benefit both health and academic performance for children. Get Active, Get Fit encourages children and their families to spend time being active! Learn more about this program and submit entries for prize drawings here.
The Breast Cancer Project educates women about breast health and the importance of early detection. This project receives funds from Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust (IBCAT), the Michigan City Women’s Bowling League, LaPorte Fire Department and other community partners and enables uninsured women to receive free mammogram services.
