Nonprofit Leadership Academy

The Healthcare Foundation of La Porte (HFL) is offering a Nonprofit Leadership Academy Certificate for La Porte County’s nonprofit community through Indiana University’s Executive Education Department at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. These competency courses will cover areas of expertise vital for non-profit leadership and will be led by experienced practitioners to facilitate effective application learning methods.

Why: Nonprofit organizations are created with the goal of bringing positive changes to people and communities. They exist to serve a need within the community, providing resources and services to individuals and families. By their nature, most nonprofits operate with constraints related to their budgets, staffing and capacity building. Due to both limited time and finances, organizations focus on responding to the community needs rather than accessing educational opportunities that could allow them to provide services with greater and more effective impact. HFL appreciate these concerns and is pleased to bring an Indiana University nonprofit leadership certificate opportunity to local nonprofit organizations.

What: Participants will receive a certificate of completion from Indiana University after attending all the following two-day courses:

  • Nonprofit Management in the 21st Century
Focus: Board governance and development, working with boards, styles of leadership, managing employees, relationships & volunteer management.
  • Strategic and Operational Planning
Focus: Setting a plan for managing operational and strategic direction and developing ways to measure and monitor success against the plan.
  • Fundraising

When: Each course will take two consecutive days to complete. Class time will be from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm with a 30-minute lunch break. Prior to the first course, enrollees will participate in a brief pre-program assessment to determine participants’ base level of understanding of nonprofit management and leadership. Before being accepted into the academy, participants must commit to participate in all 5 courses (10 dates).

Where: Courses will be held at La Porte County Public Library’s main branch located at 904 Indiana Ave, La Porte unless otherwise communicated.
