Healthcare Foundation of La Porte Receives Grant from Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust for screenings

February 20, 2020 | About HFL

The Healthcare Foundation of La Porte (HFL) has received a grant from the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust (IBCAT) that will fund 50 screening mammograms through the Breast Cancer Project of La Porte. HFL is dedicated to empowering La Porte residents to live healthy and well in and around La Porte. Establishing the Breast Cancer Project is one of the many ways they have furthered this mission.

The Breast Cancer Project is an established comprehensive effort in La Porte that educates women about breast health and the importance of early detection. This effort provides screening mammograms and comprehensive services to uninsured and underinsured women who meet ACS high-risk criteria or are forty years of age and older. Screening mammograms are made possible through grant funding from IBCAT. The mission of IBCAT is to increase awareness and improve access to breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and support services throughout Indiana. Diagnostic mammography is made possible by funding directly from HFL.

Program criteria include: (1) being 40 plus years of age or meeting high-risk status as defined by American Cancer Society (physician must determine ACS high-risk status), (2) an individual who is uninsured, underinsured, or participating in a high deductible health care (HDHC) plan, or (3) an individual whose household income meets the following guidelines: https://hflaporte.org/mammogram-program/.

Although mammograms cannot prevent breast cancer, they can save lives by detecting breast cancer early and preventing the need for more invasive treatments. To learn more about HFL’s mammogram program, visit www.hflaporte.org/mammogram-program/ or reach out to us at contact@hflaporte.com.
